Julius Ludovici (1837 – 1906) was a German Artist who studied art in Antwerp and Paris before moving to the United States in 1851. He settled in New York but traveled widely in Europe, Cuba and the West Coast of the United States. He visited California for the first time in about 1860.
Ludovici was a successful artist who normally worked in oil, however, toward the end of the 19th century he drew a number of scenes from the lives of the missionaries, and published a limited edition of these drawings in a set titled Mission Padres of California. We are pleased to feature the entire set here.
